Sometimes we just keep a problem lingering on because it’s not bothering us, (it may be a just leaking tap).
This phenomenon is very-very true for bleeding while brushing, we think of visiting a dentist when gums bleed during brushing, but just forget it after brushing and get busy in our daily routine. Everybody knows why because “IT DOES NOT PAIN”.
It is human nature that we respond to discomfort.
Bleeding from gums happen due to inflammation/swollen gums. Swollen gums can give you bad breath or halitosis. It can easily be the major cause of social isolation as person affected with Halitosis or bad-breath may avoid interaction with others.
What causes bleeding: Our teeth are individual units, and there is spaces between teeth known as inter-dental spaces. So whatever nice brushing we do some food particles, always remain struck in these spaces.
After this everybody knows a single food particle acts as nucleus and more food/ Foreign particles start getting accumulating around, hence increasing plaque (accumulated foreign particles).
Slowly this plaque starts getting calcified and becomes hard. At this stage it is called “Calculus” and cannot be removed by brushing alone.
Now just imagine a thorn struck in skin & not painfull, but it certainly will cause inflammation or injury to skin.
That’s what happen here, calculus is not painfull, but it causes inflammation/injury in gums, gums are swollen, you can see reddish tint in swollen gums, This condition is known as “Gingivitis”. So when we brush we just brush upon swollen gums which bleeds.
Advancement of Disease: Problem does not stop here. As the amount of Calculus increases it detaches gums from teeth & forms a sort of a pocket between teeth & gums.
The condition is known as “Periodontitis”
If still we ignore it, the depth of periodonted pocket will increase and bone loss around the tooth will start.
